Paralympic Table Tennis

With 29 medal events and nearly 300 athletes, Table Tennis is one of the largest sports in the Paralympics after becoming a permanent part of the Paralympic programme since the first Games in 1960.

Venue: ExCel Centre

The Paralympic Table Tennis events will be held at the ExCeL centre in London’s Docklands.

Facts

There are eleven different types of Paralympic Table Tennis – five for athletes in wheelchairs, five for standing athletes and one for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Teams to watch

China is the world leader at the sport, winning almost twice as many medals as France, their nearest rivals, at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. The Chinese took more than half of the 24 gold medals on offer and will want to do the same at London 2012.

How can I get involved?

Table tennis is fast, fun, and easy to learn and new players are always welcome.
